Penysarn Heritage Event
On Saturday, 23 April a heritage event was held at the Village Hall in Penysarn to remember the First World War. Over the past 2 years, Penysarn Boys’ and Girls’ Club has researched the lives and histories of the 17 young men whose names are written on the memorial stone at Penysarn as part of the remembrance of 100 years since the First World War. Under the guidance of the two youth leaders Carol Whitaker and Gordon Hayes, members of the club have created a display about the young men as a result of their research and took part in different heritage events, such as “Wales remembers” at Aberystwyth where the young people transcribed some of the names into the Book of Remembrance.
Enid Williams, Principal Youth Officer, said “It was obvious that it was a very emotional experience for all involved, at times, and huge benefits for the young people in helping them understand the events and impact that the First World War had on the village.”
